COURSE EVALUATION METHOD

Grade Distribution

• Final Exam: 40%
• In-Term Studies: 60%

In-Term Studies Breakdown

• Mid-term exam: 40%
• Attendance: 30% (3 points per week) - Those who maintain their streak or break it only once receive a +3 bonus
• Article Presentations: 30% (bonus points available for exceptional presentations, -20 points if you don't show up). 
• Evaluation criteria:
• 100: highly interesting (It ignites curiosity, delivers surprising insights, expands our knowledge, and injects pure energy into the classroom.)
• 90: interesting
• 80: still boring but tolerable
• 70: boring but shows some effort
• 60: boring
• =<50:  painfully boring or/and unprepared ( If you're merely reading off a slide or paper, failing to make necessary preparations, or killing the vibe!)

• Pop-up quizzes (min 5 throughout the year): 70 points 
• Each quiz will consist of fill-in-the-blank quiz questions based on the weekly assigned articles.
• Quizzes will cover readings we haven't yet discussed in class.  Exception: if we have the quiz after the first reading, we'll have already discussed that reading in class); also if there was no quiz the previous week, a few questions might come from that week's readings.
• You will have five (5) minutes to complete the quiz.
• Quizzes can pop up anytime! Usually, they'll be at the start of class or right after the first presentation. 
• Your quiz grade will be determined based on the average score of your four highest-scoring quizzes.

• + Bonus points: upto 10 additional points per semester for active participation  and when students teach the class something new.
